Farm Safety
Stephenson County Farm Bureau hosts "First on the Scene"
|

In light of the Winnebago County father and son killed in a farming accident, some area farmers are learning how to best prepare themselves for a similar emergency. The Stephenson County Farm Bureau sponsored a "first on the scene" farm hazards training program in Winslow. Training specialists ran situational exercises, such as grain entrapment, tractor rollovers and how to properly clean up chemicals. Organizers say it's important to know what to and not to do in an emergency.
"It's critical to always be aware of those things around you and those that are farming take those things for granted quite often, you're around those situations everyday and maybe you don't think all the time what the potential risks are," says Bruce Johnson of the Stephenson County Farm Bureau.
A grant from Country Insurance and Financial Services and the Illinois Farm Bureau made this class possible.
