Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year UPS is delivering packages to 200 countries around the world. It is truly a global power, but more importantly Rockford is home to the second largest UPS hub in the world, and the hub that already employs almost 1,500 people is about to get a whole lot bigger.
UPS plans on beginning the project late this month with completion coming before the holiday rush at the end of the year. The actual size of the plant won’t be increasing, but inside the UPS building additional sorting equipment will make it possible to sort 121,000 packages every hour.
The state has offered job creation tax credits to UPS while the city has tentatively offered to help reduced construction costs by helping with a new parking lot to support the added employees.
The UPS hub is one of six in the country that supports UPS's next day air network. They are also building a freight hub in Rockford that will open this summer.
