Currently, a moratorium is in place on new billboard construction, after a number of business and homeowners complained about too many rundown and unused billboards.
Since then, Mayor Doug Scott has appointed a task force to review current billboard regulations, conduct billboard surveys, and hold meetings to get public input about a new billboard ordinance.
Possibilities range from total elimination of billboards within the city limits to tighter restrictions on billboard locations and construction.
Tomorrow’s public debate on billboards will be held at the Burpee Museum on north Main Street in Rockford; it gets underway at 6:30 p.m. in the evening.
