Alcohol and drug abuse is a problem that impacts communities throughout the country.
In Rockford, a foundation has been put together to help fight the disease that takes a toll on so many lives everyday.
Patricia Keating is head of the KS foundation. She is a recovering addict who has been sober for the past 24 years. But Patricia says her path to recovery was anything but smooth.
Unfortunately Patricia says the life of her child was only one of the good things that happened to her as she battled with her substance abuse. Losing loved ones to alcohol abuse is one reason she began the foundation.
Winnebago County coroner’s officials say that drugs and alcohol contribute too many deaths in the community. They stress this is issue needs strong attention, before it claims the lives of more of today's youth.
Patricia says that the KS foundation is a stepping stone to help those on their way to recovery. The most important thing is that alcoholics and drug users recognize their problems and are willing to ask for help.
