Rockford police report that on Thursday 4-20-06 Chicago Police Supt. Phillip Cline issued a press release warning of an increase in heroin related overdoses and deaths in Chicago.
It is unknown if the deaths are related to tainted heroin (with fentanyl) or if there is a very strong batch of heroin on the street.
Recently there has been an increase in drug overdoses in the Rockford area. At this point none have been linked directly to tainted heroin.
There is a direct connection between Rockford’s heroin supply and that of Chicago being a source city.
The purpose of this release is to warn drug users of the potential increased risk.
Anyone with information on heroin sales or distribution is asked to call the Metro Narcotic Unit (987-5034) or Crimestoppers (963-7867).
