Freedom field right now is just that, a field. Eventually it will be filled with solar panels and wind turbines quietly producing energy. But just what does that have to do with hydrogen?
It is basically just a transfer of energy. Solar panels and wind turbines harness the energy; they then use that energy to extract hydrogen out of water.
But isn’t hydrogen highly combustible? The answer is yes, but it’s actually safer than gasoline. In the event of a leak, hydrogen escapes and is instantly diluted into the air while gasoline can pool on the ground.
The process is also incredibly clean because the byproducts are oxygen and water.
