Janesville Man Killed in Morning Crash

One man is killed and another injured in an early morning car crash in Rock County.

Rock County sheriff's deputies say 23-year-old David Thostenson of Janesville was driving southwest near 1257 South Old Highway 11 near Footville at about 2:45 Thursday morning.

Thostenson drove his pick-up truck onto the shoulder, but then over-corrected his steering. Police say that caused his vehicle to skid out of control. It entered the south ditch, ran over a tree stump and went airborne, hitting a tree. The vehicle came to a stop on its roof.

Thostenson was pinned after the crash. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators say he was wearing a seat belt. Thostenson’s passenger, 32-year-old Paul Chatfield III of Oregon, WI, was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing his seat-belt. He was transported to a Janesville hospital by ambulance where he is listed in fair condition.

Officials say alcohol and speed both appear to be contributing factors in this single-vehicle accident.
