For the Martinez family... lunch at Burger King isn't exactly " having it moms way" ...
"Alot of the time..this is just convenient ..it's fast its quick ..thats really the only reason why we come here" . says mother Amy Martinez
According to a study released today by the "Center For Science In The Public Interest" .. Purchasing that " Big-Kids meal" .. may ring true to the slogan.. "You are what you eat"...The study shows that kids meals are extremely high in calories..93 percent of both McDonald's and Wendy's kids' meal choices exceed 430 calories..That's one third the calories, the Institute of Medicine recommends a child eat-per day... Burger King ranks in at a "whopping" 92 percent.. while both Dairy Queen and Abby's join their fast food friends high on the list...
"Exceeding calorie needs by that much.. your going to see a weight gain and obesity is such an epidemic right now that don't go by what the restaurants are telling you to feed them.. go by your own judgment".. says SwedishAmerican Dietitian Penny Bolen
The study suggests Subway kids' meals are one of the best options out there today...Only one third of its Fresh and Fit choices are above 430 calories .. but for moms like Martinez..that option doesn't make the " cut" ...
" They won't sit still for a long period of time so bringing them to somewhere like that is very chaotic and stressful for me so it's better to take them somewhere where they can sit and eat and then go play"..
. but even with exercise after the meal...world nutritionists say it's those nuggets in-between that could lead to a super-sized lifestyle...
