Perched on her door step Friday, Jennifer McGlothlin grapples with what her neighbor just a few doors down stands accused of.
"I honestly couldn't tell you, it's just so shocking. You just could't ever realize it was there," McGlothlin said. 47-year-old Richard Davis lives in the Evergreen Village mobile home park. But for the past week, he's been in jail, first for allegedly kidnapping this 6-year-old girl from his neighborhood and taking pictures of her in his bedroom. Then Friday, 27 new charges are filed against him, this time for sexual abuse and child pornography involving another 6-year-old girl. "This other girl actually lived very close to where he was living. He knew the girl's parents," Sgt. Rudy Ziegler of DeKalb County Sheriff's Office said.
These latest charges follow a search of Davis' home. Beneath the porch's rafters were 3 C-D's with images of the second victim's private parts. Ziegler says Davis admitted to taking these pictures and told police that recent family problems, including a divorce, led him down this disturbing path. "When he made contact with these kids, they gave him attention and affection that was something he wasn't getting," Ziegler said. Back at McGlothlin's home, she's relieved Davis is behind bars, especially with two younger siblings at home. "Nice to know the kids in the area are safe and are not going to be hurt my him or anything," McGlothlin said. Authorities say in the the first case the 6- year-old girl, allegedly kidnapped, was let go and never physically or sexually harmed. Davis remains the DeKalb County jail. His bail set at $2,000,000. Based on witness reports, Sgt. Ziegler says Davis has been spending lots of time over the past two weeks walking around with his dog and talking to children. He even said in Davis' own home, authorities found candy to give the kids as well.
