Friends and Family Host Celebration for Michael Eash Jr.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Family and friends of a Roscoe man killed at a local bar in early 2014 gathered on Saturday to celebrate his life.

Michael Eash, Jr., died in February, several weeks after he had been found beaten and unconscious on the floor of the smoking area at Legend’s Bar in Machesney Park. On Saturday, Eash’s family and friends put on a celebration for the 40-year-old. His uncle says the gathering was also to help raise some money for Eash’s two children who will now grow up without a father. He left behind a teenaged daughter and a son who isn’t due until May. The event was held at the Image, a bar in Rockford. Eash grew up very close to the bar; his mother said he played in the empty field where that building is now.

Police say Matthew Duncan, 29, attacked Eash. Duncan is charged with two counts of aggravated battery.
