When 15-year-old Max Keding was charged with first-degree murder last week, he may have become the youngest murder defendant in DeKalb County's 169-year history. Keding is accused of gunning down 19-year-old Jayson Martin Tuesday night in what police are calling a gang-related dispute. Both had criminal records and alleged ties to rival gangs. Keding's case will not be heard in juvenile court because of a state law, passed in 1998, that automatically transfers serious juvenile cases to adult court as long as the alleged offender is at least 15.
