Jim Vandiver, the President of Paymaster Pawnshop in Rockford says with the economy tight right now. People are selling all sorts of things, including their gold teeth.
Those in a cash bind come to Paymaster with their item, Jim loans them some money and if they don't pay him back within a certain amount of time the store keeps it.
Jim tells us in the past 3 months business at the pawn shop has increased 20% that's because people are desperate to sell everything from diamond rings to gold teeth.
And yes people are selling, Jim recently had about 20 people come in to sell their grills, that's a teeth mold out of gold. One he bought for $100 and plans to melt down and sell for $140.
Even with the success, Jim says he wishes people could keep their flashy smiles for themselves. "I don't like to see it because it means other people are hurting, it's kind of tough for them."
