We have a "Dancing with the Stars" wannabe in our midst! 23 News reporter Alice Barr is performing in a dance competition at Burpee's annual fundraiser this Saturday. Here's a sneak peek at dancing with the TV Divas!
"Gather round me all you dancers..." the music blares.
I'm not sure what I've gotten myself into, But so far it's been a lot of fun! Especially since the always-entertaining Rockford Alderman Doug Mark agreed to be my dance partner.
"What do you think's been the hardest about the whole process?" I ask Alderman Mark, he pauses and replies, "Learning how to dance!"
We'll be dancing a "cha-cha" this Saturday night at the Burpee Museum's annual fundraiser "Bone Soiree."
Mark and I are competing against reporters from our rival TV stations and their politician partners.
"We have the hardest one to do, the most footwork, so I mean without a doubt, they'll see a huge difference in the quality," says Mark with a smile.
Our competition has been at the studio every day, working hard, just like us, they're doing great but we're gonna do a little better and I'm just gonna cha-cha my little heart out!
"There's been som trash talking," I say to Ald. Mark. He replies, "There has, all from the other teams, I think it's mostly for jealousy and searching for other things outside of the talent, I think you have to resort to other things."
We've all been spying on each other and drilling ourselves at Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Cherry Valley.
Says Mark, "They have been so patient, and I tell ya what they really know what they're doing!"
And it's all in the name of the Burpee. There will be dinner, fireworks and of course dancing. So now that i'm getting the footwork down, my next goal is figuring out how to get this song out of my head... it could be awhile... "Cha cha cha!!"
Tickets are still available, so you can catch more mortifying moments in my life, along with the fun stuff planned at the fundraiser. It goes from six to midnight Saturday at the museum. Contact the museum for tickets, they're 90 dollars, preferably by the end of Friday, but you can also get them at the door.
Audience members at Burpee will vote on their favorite dancers. There are also some celebrity judges and right now you can vote for your favorite in an informal poll at http://blogs.e-rockford.com/askgeo/
