Someday Rockford is going to have one of the finest highway systems in the country. At least that's what you would think with all the construction projects in progress right now. The latest plan is to close the on ramp for westbound traffic on US 20 getting onto Interstate 39 northbound. The detour isn't too complicated, but if you are prone to dizzy spells you may want to find another route. Cars can zip around the cloverleaf, but for semis, it takes a little longer so traffic will likely be backed up along Harrison Avenue. For restuarants in Cherry Valley the consturction has been good for businness. Jason Snelling of Backyard Grill says, "You know what? When they have the traffic shuttling through the village, when they have a block over there, there seems to be an increase in business. Like I said a lot of new faces, a lot of good exposure." Good news for them, bad news for drivers in a hurry. In a cirmumstance of perfect timing, construction starts today on the US 20 bridge over the Kishwaukee River. Cars will be restricted to one lane in each direction until September. Traffic is already so bad for commuters from Rockford to the Chrysler plant in Belvidere that many have started carpooling. That's certainly one solution. Jason has another, "Me personally, with myself and you know of course the staff we need to give a couple extra minutes travel time to get into work and get situated on time."
