Minutemen in Illinois report illegal immigrants to authorities. The group faces a lot of opposition. Usually when they meet they draw counter-protests so police were preparing to provide security measures for a demonstration at the meeting in Rockford this weekend.
It was scheduled for Sunday at Stash O’Neil’s on East State Street.
The director of the Illinois Minuteman project asked the owner if they could meet there after being turned away from Memorial Hall.
County officials said no because it's against Memorial Hall policy to host political events.
On Thursday managers of O’Neil’s also took back their offer. The owner changed his mind after police told his management that officers would need to be there, in case protestors showed up.
