Just when they thought it was safe to start cleaning up, river levels are creeping up again. Shore Drive in Machesney Park is now shut down between Wilshire and Gilbert and only residents are allowed in. Here's how those flood victims are dealing with a new round of rising waters.

The clean-up process for flood victims is a messy business.
"We've had snakes and dead mice and worms and bugs like crazy," says Roxanne Tuckett.
It's not something you want to go through twice and now that the Rock River is back on the rise, some residents are thinking twice about moving ahead.
"We were thinking about bringing in new drywall, insulation, the beginning of this week and start putting things back together, but now with the river coming up, you know we don't know," says Tuckett.
You can easily see just how quickly the water is rising. When volunteers arrived to clean out one house this morning, the tires on a truck parked outside were not even under water, and you could walk right up to the house without getting wet. Now it's a very different story.
According to the National Weather Service, the Rock River was fifteen inches above the ten foot flood stage in Machesney Park this evening. It's expected to hit eleven and a half feet by tomorrow morning. Most of the problem stems from up north, where Wisconsin storms are pumping more water downstream to us.
Duane Buck has been stripping down a Shore Drive house while keeping an eye on the rock.
"I've been watching it for the last couple days going up more and more," says Buck.
He's hoping his hard work won't go down the drain, if more water flows back into the house.
"We'd just have to pack up, wait for it to go down and start all over again," says Buck.
And that fighting spirit is echoed all over the neighborhood.
Tuckett says, "We're just fighting a battle but it's going to be better, it will be better." ...With a little help from above. "You hear that??" she says, turning her face up to the sky.

The water is crossing over the road on Shore Drive and the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department is waiting to see if they'll have to shut the road down again.
The Rock River is expected to stay above flood stage until next Thursday morning, while the Pecatonica should see moderate flooding until Thursday evening.

I read that Machesney Park may consider a "FEMA buyout" of the flooded properties. What ever happened to this? I think tax money should only be allowed to cover these flooded properties ONCE, not over and over again.

I saw AGAIN a story on the flooding, homeowner stated"we were just getting ready to put in new drywall now water is coming up again" that's a big time clue, you live on the river, it's flooded before and it WILL again, I don't see why they are allowed to rebuild, just make the river line public property and houses have to be so many feet from the river.

My heart is absolutely breaking for the families that have flooded homes. I am sending prayers for them & their homes.
