By next October, a one-acre site on Hawick and Blackhawk in Rockton will have an appealing new look, the new development by Jarrett Custom Homes, will include eight condominiums and eight retail spaces below.

"2,000 square feet, two bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, two car garage, balcony overlooking the river," says President Christi Jarrett.

"Our goal all along has been to promote economic development, commercial development in our community, and this being a commercial development in our downtown area is just really an additional benefit," says Rockton Mayor Dale Adams.

At this point, there's no word on which retail stores will occupy the space.

"Obviously with the condos on top, we're going to have restrictions on exactly what can go on there. We're just looking for some businesses, that are 8-5, 9-5, maybe little boutiques or coffee shops."

A new park, called Settlers Park, will be created across the street on the riverfront. Rockton Mayor Dale Adams says the Greenspace area will be an important addition to the village.

"We'll have a soccer field here, baseball diamond, we'll have some basketball courts, and in addition to that, a bike path and some kind of Kodak moment type things. Kind of like Sinnissippi Park in Rockford, that kind of environment," Says Adams.

The granary project will cost around $2.5 million.

The base price for the condos will be $224,000. The condos should be ready to occupy by October.
