3rd Member of Hate Crimes Commission Resigns

Chicago businessman Howard Kaplan says he can't remain on a commission that, "Accepts divisive and bigoted standards."

Two other Jewish members of the panel announced their resignations yesterday.

They object to Governor Rod Blagojevich naming Claudette Marie Muhammad to the commission.

She is head of community outreach for the Nation of Islam, which is led by Louis Farrakhan. During a recent speech, Farrakhan accused "Hollywood Jews" of "promoting lesbianism, homosexuality" and other "filth."

But the governor says Muhammad supports the commission's goals of fighting discrimination and is not responsible for her boss's statements.
