A small plane being flown by a 54-year-old man from Belvidere crashed in a field just before five Monday night. He escaped unharmed. It happened in the 5600 block of Owen Center Road. Investigators say the pilot was on a joy ride when he lost power. They believe the plane's throttle malfunctioned. The wind carried the plane into a tree before it smashed into a cornfield. The FAA released the plane for Winnebago County to investigate.
