The last thing most of us want is to have to pay higher taxes. But members of Rockford city council are holding forums to try to convince us to do just that.
On Thursday night, Rockford alderman victory bell explained why the city council wants this change. Increasing the sales tax to eight and a quarter percent would generate about $70 million over the next decade. That's because everyone who shops in Rockford contributes to our tax revenue.
There's another forum scheduled for Tuesday at city hall. That's also at 6 p.m. On March 1, there will be a forum at Rock Valley College. And the last meeting is on March 2 at Midway Village.
