Rockford Reachout Jail Ministry Opens New Center

Statistics show that more than 60 percent of jail inmates will re-offend after their released. But former Winnebago County inmates will have a better chance of staying out of jail thanks to a new center that opened Wednesday.

The Rockford Reachout Ministry has opened a Residence Assistance Center to help inmates when they get back on the streets.

City leaders say the non-profit center is a welcome addition as crime rates continue to climb in Winnebago County and the recent closure of the satellite jail sent hundreds of inmates into the community.

The Residence Center will provide many services including counseling, GED and job training, and spiritual development, services former inmates are in desperate need off to keep from re-offending.
