New After School Program in Freeport

A new community agency in Freeport is helping at risk youth keep their lives on track. It's called youth becoming leaders. Volunteers just started up an after school program at Carl Sandburg middle school last month. The kids are happy to spend time doing their homework and learning life skills.

"One thing we're trying to do is organize their school work. We're trying to get them to understand the importance of school. Which we're doing a good job at. They're doing wonderful work," says Pam Werntz, the president of YBL.

Youth becoming leaders is hosting an open house Friday night. It’s at the Highland Community College Cafeteria. It starts at 5 p.m. and runs to 7 p.m.

If you would like to volunteer or donate call Pam at 238-4653.
