Plans are moving ahead to build a proposed ethanol plant off South Meridian Road in Winnebago County. After pulling its original request, the project's developers, Wight Partners, has resubmitted a revised application with the county's zoning board to rezone the land from agricultural to heavy industrial.
Goebel highlighted his company’s plans to the Rockford Rotary Club. He told them if the ethanol plant is approved more than one hundred people will be employed to operate it. Construction could start as early as this summer. However, the facility still faces reviews from the both the county and state.
Area residents who are opposed to the ethanol plant will get the chance to voice their opinions at next months county's zoning board meeting.
