The much-anticipated William Buck murder trial begins Tuesday in a Winnebago County courtroom.
Buck is accused of killing Rockford police detective Kevin Rice in August of 2001.
It took nearly five weeks to select the 12 jurors and four alternates from a pool of jurors in Lake County. The jury and alternates will be brought to Rockford and sequestered each week of the trial. The jurors will be allowed to return home on the weekends.
The trial is expected to last between a month and a month and a half. If convicted, Buck could face the death penalty.
Opening arguments are set for Tuesday. The first scheduled witness is supposed to be Kevin Rice's widow.
23 News will have full coverage of the first day of trial Tuesday at five and six.
