OREGON (WIFR) – An area high school English teacher in Oregon is one of 11 finalists in Illinois’ “Teacher of the Year” competition.
Aaron Sitze teaches English and has been with the district for 11 years. His co-workers say every time they stop by his classroom the students are always energized and ready to learn. 200 teachers were nominated for the award. Sitze says it’s an honor to be among them.
"It's a huge honor. I'm super psyched. I got the news a little while ago and I'm on cloud nine. It's really exciting to be doing something for so long and then not really to think about it and then to get recognition is definitely a big boost.”
No other local teachers made the list of finalists. The winner will be named in October at the Illinois State Baord of Education’s annual banquet.
