UPDATE: Illinois State Police District 1 Announces Attempted Child Abduction Unfounded

UPDATE: LEE COUNTY (WIFR) -- Illinois State Police District 1 has cancelled the previously issued community alert for the Compton area. After investigating the incident, the complaint is said to be unfounded.

LEE COUNTY (WIFR) -- Illinois State Police District 1 is issuing a community alert after two attempted child abductions in the village of Compton.

In late June and again on August 22 the occupants of a white Volvo station wagon attempted to lure children into the vehicle in the area of the park in Compton. The occupants of the vehicle are offering rides to the children and when the rides are refused the occupants then order the children into the car.

The suspect vehicle is described as a white Volvo station wagon, possible late 1990's, early 200's model with tinted windows and a 12-24 inch scratch/dent on the passenger side door area. The vehicle did have a front registration plate (state unknown) with only a small amount of alpha/numeric characters on it.

The sex or race of the driver is unknown, however the passenger is described as a white male in his early twenties with short, dark colored hair.
