ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Police say a car heading north bound on Rockton Ave smashed into the side of a residence just before 5am Sunday at the intersection of North Rockton Ave and Overdene Street. The house hit resides on the 3000 block of N. Rockton Ave.

Rescue crews had to extricate the driver from the vehicle, who has been identified as 19-year-old Devonte Townsend. He was transported to a local hospital and was last listed in serious condition.

The path the vehicle took on its way to hitting the residence is clearly present on the road. From Rockton Ave, skid marks line the street to a tree that was hit and front lawns have tire tracks marking the path the car took before ramming into the residence leaving a hole in the side of the complex.

The woman living in the residence that was hit by the car was sleeping at the time of the accident. Her friends say her bed was moved about a foot as a result of impact, but she was not injured.
