Fighting Gangs With Education

When you think back to eighth grade you probably remember a care free life, being concerned with having fun and hanging out with friends. But if you think hard enough you might remember the stress of wanting to fit in and wanting to be popular.

All too often one way to fit in is to join a gang. That’s why community leaders came together to Belvidere Central Middle School. Their message, gangs are everywhere, but you can do more with your life than be a criminal.

Belvidere police and community activists say teens need to plan for their future. Otherwise their future as gang bangers is either dead or in jail.
