Like all charitable organizations Catholic Charities strive to help those in need, but recently parents questioned if that help, would put their children in danger.
The Rockford Diocese planned on opening a new regional office on N. Court St. Friday. The church’s goal is to help abused and needy people. The office is located next door to a school, and unfortunately many of those in need have substance abuse problems. Some are even sex offenders. In response to parishioners concerns the diocese decided not to counsel any sexual predators at the location.
The planned opening was delayed by a zoning issue, but was ultimately canceled due to the concerns of parents and parishioners. A new location has not yet been picked for the Catholic Charities regional headquarters. In the mean time some case workers will be conducting classes at alternative sites.
