UNDATED (WIFR) -- Federal defenders take the next step in appealing Rita Crundwell's nearly 20 year prison sentence.
Wednesday was the deadline to file an appellant brief which is the initial argument to appealing Crundwell's sentence. Her attorney Paul Gaziano had argued for a lesser sentence during her trial. The government will now have time to respond to the 61-page brief. Crundwell was sentenced on Valentine's Day after stealing nearly $54 million from the city of Dixon when she was comptroller.
