ROCKFORD (WIFR)-- Blood stains, police markings, and firework shells now sit on Henrietta Avenue where neighbors say dozens of kids and their families celebrated the Fourth of July. It's the same location police say 27 year old Semarin Dubois likely took his last breath after witnesses say a suspect opened fire into a crowd of nearly one-hundred people and shot the victim in the head. He was the only victim hit.
"We thought we heard fireworks until we heard he was on the ground" said a neighbor.
Police say multiple cars on Green Street were riddled with bullets. Some of the ammunition. remains lodged into one of the hoods. Some neighbors say it was hard to distinguish the difference between gunfire and fire-works.
UPDATE: 27-year-old Semarin Dubois has died as a result of his injuries.
UPDATE: A man remains in critical condition in the hospital after being shot in the head in Rockford Thursday night.
Police say 27-year-old Semarin Dubois was found injured at a home in the 300 block of South Henrietta Avenue after 11:30 p.m.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A man is in very critical condition after being shot in the head Thursday night.
Police say he was at a Fourth of July party at a house in the 300 block of South Henrietta Avenue. Around 11:30 p.m., a group came to the party and a fight broke out. The man was then shot.
The victim is reported to be in his mid-20s. There are no suspects at the moment. Police say they are questioning witnesses at the scene.
