Rockford (WIFR) -- Three people are recovering tonight and more than sixty are displaced after a fire inside a Rockford motel.
Firefighters were called to the Howard Johnson on 11th street at about 2 pm today. When they got there, heavy smoke was coming out of the second floor. That's where firefighters had to rescue multiple people. At least three were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The motel suffered a lot of smoke damage.
The Red Cross and the department of human services are helping more than 60 adults and kids find temporary housing.
The fire remains under investigation.
