ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It's 36 years in prison for a Rockford man convicted of sexually abusing a child.
Cornelius Lee Jones Jr., 44, was sentenced on Friday.Police arrested him back in September 2011. The victim was 10 years-old at the time and the abuse went on for three years, until the child's mother found out. Jones will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
ROCKFORD -- Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announced that on June 26, 2013 43-year-old Cornelius Jones Jr. was found guilty after a jury trial in front of the Honorable Judge Fernando Engelsma of the charge of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child.
On September 13, 2011, Rockford City Police Officers were called to investigate a sexual assault case involving Cornelius Jones who had sexually abused a 10 year old child. The abuse occurred over a 3 year period.
The defendant was convicted of 3 counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child. Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child is a Class X Felony with a sentencing range of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Each count carries a mandatory consecutive sentence. The penalty range is 16-90 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Pursuant to truth and sentencing a defendant shall serve 85 percent of the imposed sentence and must register as a sex offender for Natural Life. The mandatory supervised release period is 3 years up to natural life.
A sentencing date has been set for August 30, 2013 at 9:00 a.m.
