ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Half a dozen empty buildings could have new owners by the fall.
We often hear about where businesses used to be in the Stateline, with the name of some buildings changing with the season, but now some new hope to half a dozen restaurants all starting up around the same time.
Boarded up windows and a faded sign are all that's left of one empty restaurant on North 2nd Street in Loves Park. More than a decade ago, the location was home to a Ponderosa Steak House and Chinese Buffet, with now another transformation, Molly's Deli. The restaurant is expected to move into the building and give new life to two others in the Stateline, including an empty spot on North Main Street and South Alpine, near Schnucks.
In Rockford, East State Street could see another famous steak house, just across the street from Lone-Star. Longhorn Steak House is expected to share a parking lot with American TV. The business would like to open in October, depending on approval from the city.
The tables are still set at Rockford’s former Mash-Up restaurant which closed last year and it sounds like, they could stay that way. Mexican restaurant, Lucha Cantina would like to take over the spot. We're told the potential owner is fairly close to inking a deal with the city.
From the Edgebrook shopping center, to CherryVale mall, the old Baker's Square will soon become what the new owners are calling a trendy breakfast and lunch spot, called the "Eggsclusive Café.”
The business is hoping to open in the fall with 30 new employees. Another location is already open in Sycamore.
Right now, the location is going through a lot of renovations and if all goes okay for the other deals being worked out across the Stateline, it seems we can expect a lot of construction in the area.
We’re told there is also a new pizza place moving into the spot across from the Shell Gas Station on South Alpine Road near American Road. Some of these locations are still waiting on approval from the city.
