ROCKFORD – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a total of $19 million in capital investments for a road project just southwest of Rockford.
The project is part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“This project will improve traffic flow and increase safety on Illinois Route 2,” Governor Quinn said. “The project will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy.”
The project involves 1.5 miles of pavement reconstruction on Illinois Route 2 from south of Pond Street to Cedar Street, just southwest of Rockford. William Charles Construction Company, LLC of Loves Park was the lowest of five bidders for the work with their bid of $18,995,417.
The contract was recently awarded following a competitive bidding process, and addresses a critical infrastructure need while creating construction jobs. The Illinois Department of Transportation will manage the project.
