Forty-three year-old Jose Perdomo, also known as Roberto Martinez, was arrested by Federal officers and the Rockford Police late last week. They found Perdomo at the Sunset Motel on the city's southeast side where he was working as a manager.
Perdomo's arrest comes nearly three years after he resisted a Federal deportation order and became a fugitive. He first came to the US in 1991 and was a permanent resident but was later convicted of sexual exploitation of a minor and was sent to jail.
When he was ordered to be deported Perdomo didn't surrender to authorities, and took off to avoid arrest. The Immigration National Fugitive Operation Program targets aliens like Perdomo and found him after getting a tip.
A spokesperson for the U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement Gail Montenegro says, “This is an important arrest for us because ICE was able to restore integrity to this nation’s immigration system and we are continuously seeking those fugitives who blatantly disregard our nation’s law and defy the order of a federal immigration judge."
Right now Perdomo is jail in Chicago waiting to be sent back to El Salvador. Officials say illegal immigrants are a growing problem. There are more than 450,000 people living right here in the United States, many of them right here in the Stateline.
Authorities are always looking for citizen's tips. If anyone has information regarding any suspected fugitive you can call the line at 866-DHS-2-ICE.
