On Thursday night the county board voted in favor of expanding the Winnebago landfill. It could take up another 123 acres near Baxter Road in New Milford.
Supporters argue this will give us a place to send our trash for the next 25 years. The private contractor also has to pay a fee to Winnebago County for every ton of waste that is put in the landfill. That money will be shared with the village of New Milford.
A member of the town's zoning board says this expansion will cause a lot more problems than it's worth. Residents in New Milford are also angry because many of them did not hear about this expansion until two weeks ago.
Board members considered holding another public forum so more people could get their opinions heard. But they voted against it, 19-4.
