Buying High Definition or Standard This Christmas?

High definition or standard?

The difference in what you see is a much higher quality image with a high definition television. But with higher resolution you see a higher price tag. Standard big screens go for several hundred dollars and up. But if you are looking at digital, it will cost you at least a thousand dollars for a medium sized set.

A standard TV is obviously cheaper but that doesn't mean it’s a better deal, because technology will be leaving these TVs behind. By the end of 2006 local television stations will shut off analog, and be required to broadcast in high definitions.

So if you want your standard television to work there is more equipment to buy. An extra box will have to go on top of your TV to translate the digital signal into analog. Those boxes can be found for $100 to $200 but are not sold in many electronics store yet.
