Smoke Free Freeport

We’ve see smoke free restaurants scattered about the Stateline and many places of employment have banned smoking on the premises as well. The grand opening of Eilerts cocktail lounge in Freeport marks city’s first smoke free bar. It is also part of a trend that has been slowly working through the country.

Eilerts may be one of the first smoke free facilities in the area but it certainly won’t be the last. The anti-smoking surge started fifteen years ago when airlines started banning smoking on short flights. Today seven states have total smoking bans in all restaurants, bars and work places. The owner of Eilerts believes the smoke free environment will draw business class customers especially at lunch and after work.

Dozens of cities have banned smoking across the country. Often taking the lead is San Francisco, where you can’t even smoke in a public park.
