ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Tough budget decisions could pay off for the City of Rockford, because it looks like it might be working with a balanced budget this year.
The 2013 budget is just under $18 million and is in positive territory for the first time in several years. When budget talks began last fall, the city had faced a half-million dollar deficit. All eight city departments made cuts. There’s also an increase in sales tax revenue that is expected to put an extra $50,000 into city coffers.
The financial plan has to be in place before the end of March.
