It now looks like a strike in Winnebago is highly unlikely. To just about everyone's relief the teachers did accept the terms of the new contract.
Those terms will not be made public until the school board votes on the agreement Tuesday 15th. The final vote was roughly 80% in favor of the new deal and 20% against.
The 118 teachers had been working without a contract since the end of August. The main concerns continue to be salary and insurance. Winnebago teachers starting salary had been the lowest in all of Boone and Winnebago counties, even with the new contract it is unlikely for that to change for at least the next few years. Most parties involved believe the contract is better than the alternative, which would be to strike.
