Main Street Program

Downtown Rockford development continues at a swift pace and with a new title that rapid rate is expected to continue.

Monday, Illinois Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn welcomed Rockford to the Illinois Main Street program. The Main Street approach is based on community participation. It's a common-sense way to revitalize older, traditional business districts throughout the united states. Our Main Street stretch is the River District where businesses on both sides of the river will benefit. The Main Street program will specifically help those business owners on State Street, Main Street and Wyman. Those will be the areas where heavy emphasis can be placed on design, economic restructuring, promotion and organization.

Illinois Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn says, “It helps with jobs, economic growth, new businesses and existing businesses get bigger. Main Street is very successful all over the country."

Rockford is the 57th community to join the Main Street program. Rockford is also the largest Illinois city to be a part of what Belvidere and DeKalb have already joined.
