The federal courthouse in Rockford will soon be on the move. The Senate approved $50 million to build a new federal courthouse.
A new courthouse has been desperately needed for some time. The current courthouse is more than 25 years old and poses structural and security problems.
A bill including the $50 million for the new facility is now in front of a conference committee. That committee will have to agree on the wording before it heads to the president.
If everything goes according to plan, construction should start in the spring of 2006.
