The 26 year old was reportedly on his way to Rockford Memorial Hospital this afternoon, but he couldn't quite make it. He drove right off the road and into an apartment building on the 3200 block of Gilbert Avenue. No one inside the building was hurt. It wasn't until after emergency crews arrived that officers discovered he was the victim of a shooting that took place near the corner of Auburn and Independence on the city's west side.

No suspects are in custody.

He is expected to make a full recovery.
