Authorities now say a glass-enclosed tour boat that overturned today on Lake George, in upstate New York, was carrying a group of senior citizens from the Trenton, Michigan area.
At least 21 people have died. And 27 others were taken to a hospital in nearby Glens Falls. A hospital spokesman says five people were admitted. Authorities doubt weather was a factor. Instead, they say the accident may have occurred when the boat was hit by the wake of a larger passing vessel. But police say nothing is being ruled out.
The accident apparently happened so fast that none of the passengers was able to put on a life jacket. Adult boat passengers are not required to wear them in New York. The National Transportation Safety Board is expected at the lake tomorrow.
