Statewide 21 schools must begin making major changes to improve student test scores. This is the strongest mandate “No Child Left Behind” has implemented so far. Three of those schools, Jackson Elementary, Swan Hillman Elementary, and Washington Communication Academy are in the Rockford school district.
With no child left behind still being a relatively new policy no schools last year were required to make these changes. So there is no precedent, and many questions regarding how exactly these schools will make changes.
It is still unknown what the administration for the Rockford school district has planed for those schools with failing scores. We talked with a spokesperson form Dr. Thompson’s office she said the superintendent of Rockford schools wouldn't be doing any interviews until the schools have been briefed.
One positive note on the new report was South Beloit Junior High being taken off the federal watch list.
