According to the Rockford Register Star, Belvidere's Veterans Day Parade begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning at city parking lot number five on State Street.
Parade marshals Gary Wickre and Ken Taylor will lead the parade to the State Street Bridge for a ceremony where Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1461 Chaplain Roger Myers will offer a prayer.
Gold Star mother Pam Trevino and Gold Star sisters Ann Castro and Inez Morrall will cast wreaths onto the water. The Rifle Squad will fire a salute and taps will be played. After proceeding to the Veterans Memorial on West Lincoln Avenue, a ceremony will be held that includes the Pledge of Allegiance. The pledge will be lead by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1461 Commander Ed Suhr, Ladies Auxiliary President Rita Frank, American Legion Post 77 Commander Jerry Douglas and Ladies Auxiliary President Joyce Kruk. Col. John A. P. Gessner, who served in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan, is the guest speaker. Closing prayer will be offered by Chaplain Greg Hansen of the American Legion Post 77.
In case of inclement weather, ceremonies will be held at the VFW, 1310 W. Lincoln Ave. at 10 a.m.
