The 2004 State of Illinois Crime Statistics are out and the crime is down. The crime rate fell 3.1% in 2004. That is the lowest level since 2001. Our murder rate, arson, robbery, theft and assault all dropped. State officials give credit to better coordination and more support from the state to crack down on illegal drugs and weapons.
