Governor Rod Blagojevich's office says more than 70 companies have identified jobs available to qualified evacuees who've found refuge here. The state Department of Employment Security has listed the jobs on its free online job matching service: www.IllinoisSkillsMatch.com.
Only a few of the jobs are solely available to evacuees. Most are open to the general public. So far this year, Illinois employers have added 57,300 jobs. Last month, the jobless rate dropped to 5.8% in from 6% in July. The state Department of Human Services estimates there are more than 86,000 hurricane evacuees in Illinois.
