To many people Belvidere is known as the home of the Dodge Neon, but that is all about to change. The plant is shutting down production for the next two months to prepare for the production of the new Dodge Caliber.
More Chrysler related changes include the hiring of 350 new workers. Those people would not be directly employed by Chrysler but by three companies that will supply the plant with materials.
A job fair in Belvidere Friday drew in over 1,200 applicants. They are mainly looking for people who already have factory experience
Once the applications are collected a panel will review the shift requests and skill ranges. Of the over 2,000 applicants about one fifth of them will receive calls for a job interview.
The job fair continues Saturday from 10 a.m. in the morning until 4 p.m. in the afternoon at the Belvidere Community Center at 111 1st Street.
